Volunteering at a race is one of the best ways to experience the event.   Through your efforts, you can help create a memorable experience for the participants by cheering, supporting, and encouraging them from the time they arrive through their finish.

Over the years, we’ve been privileged to have the support of North Allegheny Key Club, North Allegheny National Honor Society, various local running clubs, fraternities, and lots of amazing community members who have supported participants at our events in registration, on course and clean up roles.

If you’re interested in volunteering, pick a race from the list below and click the “Volunteer” link. We’ll contact you with a confirmation and then again during race week to confirm your details.

Thanks in advance, I promise the race day energy is something special!

Role Descriptions (Most shifts are approximately 2-2.5hrs):

  • Packet Pick Up and Registration: Assist the GCXC staff with checking in participants for the race and passing out bibs and race swag. For larger races, there are sometimes shifts available on a Wednesday or Thursday evening.

  • Parking: Help participants park safely and efficiently. We provide safety vests and information about how cars should be parked.

  • Water Stops: A great opportunity for groups to work together! We provide everything you need, you just fill and pass out water/gatorade to runners as they pass then clean up and stack the materials for us to pick up.

  • Course Management: Assisting the staff and participants on the course making sure they know where to go and stay safe.

  • Finish Line: Hand out medals and celebrate folks as they finish their race.

  • Post-Race Food: Help GCXC staff to set out and replenish food and water for participants to have when they finish their event.

  • Post Race Clean up: Help to pack up start/finish line materials including timing equipment, cones, signage, tents/canopies, food bins, etc.
